Study Programmes

 GVU, through its network of universities and institutions, offers a master’s degree programme in environmental and developmental studies called Global Environment and Development Studies (GEDS), which currently includes two areas of specialisation: Development Management and Environmental Information Management.

This two-year programme is designed to provide students with the knowledge in dealing with the complexity and interdependence of environment, development activities and decision-making processes. 

Upon completion of the programme, students are expected to have developed and enhanced their skills and abilities in:

· formulating problems and opportunities, conceptualising innovative solutions;
· evaluating different options within environment and development;
· collecting, assessing and processing scientific information in collaboration with peers;
· analysing and interpret results of findings during student work;
· finding win-win solutions with regards to ecology, economy and the empowerment of ordinary people,
· networking;
· persuading colleagues, decision makers and media, and defend own and group decisions; and,
· providing leadership and promote teamwork

To qualify for the programme, prospective students should have the following qualifications:

· bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant area and preferably some practical experience;
· good command of the English language. Writing skills should be at academic level
· some knowledge of and basic skills in the use of computers and access and use of the Internet.
· committed to sustainable improvement of the quality of life throughout the world
· willing and motivated to follow a course paced in time;
· willing to collaborate online, and take responsibility for contributing to building a good common learning environment, as collaboration in groups will be mandatory;
· willing and able to frequent logins in the virtual classroom.
