Summary of the workshop.
The workshop partisipants agreed that there is a need for EIM capacity building and that we should go ahead to establish a network of institutions that could develop and present education programmes in EIM. The network will be managed by a network committee under the auspices of the GVU and consisting of three types of partners – universities, research institutions and NGOs.  The committee will initially consist of all present and chaired by Paul van Helden. The first task would be to identify other partners to represent all SADC countries. The second task will be to open a discussion on the scope and content of EIM capacity building programmes and modules. To facilitate the discussions a web site will be created hosting all the documents and discussions of the workshop as well as a communication tool for future discussions. It was also decide to arrange a follow-up workshop during the AfricaGIS Conference to be held in Pretoria from 31 Oct – 4Novermber 2005.  All network participants are requested to bring the GVU Charter to the attention of the management of their university/institution.
